Dear
Members & Friends:
New classes, events
at Spiva celebrate Spring...and Doggies!
Celebrate Spring with a Saturday class at Spiva Center
for the Arts during March and April, or enjoy an event
related to Spiva's current exhibits, Good Dog/Bon Chien
and Best in Show.
Kids, ages 7 and up (even adults!), can spend the morning
in the Painted Flower Pot class with Connie Knudtson
on March 24 from 10am-noon, expressing their
creativity with colorful ceramic glazes and paints. Cost:
$15. That afternoon from 2-4pm, teens and adults can create
a masterpiece in miniature in the Pysanky Egg
painting class, taught by Carolyn Trout. Cost:
$30.
For those who enjoy mixed media, Wendy Milliman
is offering Outrageous Eggs! on Saturday,
March 31, 1-3pm. This is a fun class where the young and
young-at-heart (ages 8 and up) embellish gigantic paper
mache eggs with feathers, beads, lace, leaves, paint,
buttons, pins…whatever! Cost: $15.
If you looking for a special gift for Mother’s Day,
create your own! Sign up for Delicious Devore
Scarves on Saturday, April 21, 10am–noon,
and let Connie Knudtson show you her
fool-proof method for dyeing a gorgeous scarf. Cost: $32.
Dog lovers (ages 8 through adult) will want to sign up
for Color That Canine!, taught by pet
portrait artist Becky Golubski. The “live”
models will be Delta Society Therapy Dogs, courtesy of
Tri-State Kennel Club. The class is held at Spiva, Saturday,
March 31, 10am-noon. Cost: $18.
Good
Dog/Bon Chien artist Michael Peven
returns
to Spiva to present a slide talk about his work on Sunday
afternoon, April 1, beginning at 2pm. A $5 donation at
the door is requested.
Need a few tips for training your own pooch?
Drop by Spiva around 2pm on Saturday, March 24, for Doggone
Right!, an obedience and agility demonstration
by dogs and members of Tri-State Kennel Club. It's FREE!
( But please do not bring your own dog....Thanks!)
And those who just might want a new four-legged addition
to the family will want to come by Spiva on Saturday,
April 14, 10am-2pm for the Humane Society Adoption Day.
Spiva Center for the Arts is located at 222 West 3rd Street
at Wall in Joplin. Advance registration and prepayment
are required to be enrolled in a class at Spiva. Payment
can be made in person, by mail, and by phone with MasterCard
or Visa. Please call Spiva at 417.623.0183 to register,
to receive a class schedule, or for additional information.
The Art Center is open to the public Tuesday – Saturday,
10am-5pm, and Sunday, 1–5pm; closed Mondays and
major holidays.
If you missed the opening, it was a grand time indeed!
Great art, of course! Great food, thanks to the Ridpath
Club members. Great music, by Gary Kyger. Great new stuff...mostly
dogs... in the Gift Shop. And a great crowd: Spiva members,
families, kids, and Delta Society Therapy Dogs and owners.
There's still time to see the shows. Best in Show continues
through Sunday, April 15; Good Dog/Bon Chien goes through
Friday April 20.
It’s
spring at Spiva—where imagination lives!
