S
Your Gift to the Arts

Planning Your Gift

• Cash. Contributions of cash remain the simplest way to give to the Spiva Endowment Fund.
Many companies will match an employee’s cash gift, so please check with your employer.

• Challenge Grants. Spiva will accept grants that challenge a fundraising match.

• Securities. Contributions of stocks and bonds are deductible at fair market value of the securities at the time of the gift. Therefore, gifts of appreciated securities can have multiple tax benefits to donors (such as eliminating capital gains taxes).

• Real Estate. Gifts of property are deductible at the fair market value of the property at the time of the gift. Like gifts of stock, contributions of appreciated property can have multiple tax benefits to donors.

• Retirement Accounts. Designating retirement account assets in whole or in part to the Spiva Endowment Fund can save or even eliminate substantial income and estate taxes.

• Insurance. Life insurance offers a variety of opportunities to provide a legacy for the benefit of the Spiva Endowment Fund. Similar to retirement accounts, donors may choose to designate all or a portion of the benefits from these assets to Spiva.

• Bequests. Remembering Spiva in your will or estate plan by designating a specific asset or portion of your estate for the benefit of the Spiva Endowment Fund is a wonderful way to leave a legacy of art for our community.

• Charitable Remainder Trusts. These trusts let donors reduce and defer income taxes resulting from the sale of appreciated assets. While a donor may retain a benefit for a specified term, Spiva will receive the benefit of a remainder interest.

• Charitable Lead Trusts. Often providing greater income tax benefits than charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts provide a current benefit for Spiva and reserve a remainder interest for your family or other designated beneficiary.

• Gifts in Honor or Memory. Pay tribute to loved ones by designating a gift in their honor — celebrate a birthday, anniversary, holiday or special achievement —or give a gift in someone’s memory.
